Yedioth Ahronoth newspaper revealed on Tuesday that the Israeli occupation army, during its ongoing aggression against the northern Gaza Strip, is gradually implementing what is known as the generals’ plan, which aims to displace the people of the Gaza Strip, and that it is preventing the return of the displaced to their homes in Jabalia.
This came in a report prepared by the newspaper’s military analyst, Yoav Zaitoun, who accompanies the occupation forces in their ongoing aggression in Gaza, Lebanon, and even Syria.
The report said that according to the occupation army’s plan, it is expected that the northern third of the Gaza Strip will remain dismembered, and its displaced residents will not be allowed to return, unless the prisoner exchange agreement with the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) changes the picture.
He added that this plan “is not limited to combat operations only, but also includes preventing the residents of Gaza from returning to their homes in some areas that were destroyed or severely affected by military operations. At the forefront of these areas is the city of Jabalia and its environs, along with other areas such as Beit Hanoun and Beit Lahia.
Overlooking settlements
Zaitoun attributed the army’s behavior to the fact that these areas “overlook Israeli settlements.” The report also described what is happening in northern Gaza as a systematic military plan to eliminate resistance based on the “generals’ plan” formulated by Reserve Major General Giora Eiland.
He added that this plan “focuses on cleansing the Gaza areas of the ‘enemy’ in a systematic manner, so that the infrastructure of the Hamas movement in those areas is destroyed, while imposing an evacuation policy for civilians and preventing their return to areas that have been cleared.”
Zaytoun pointed out that northern Gaza witnessed a mass exodus of residents, and claimed that the number of residents who were deported from these areas was about 65 thousand people, who were pushed to the southern regions of the Gaza Strip, especially to Gaza City, which has become a major gathering point for refugees.
The report quoted – from sources in the Israeli army – that “the northern Gaza area will be maintained as an area devoid of population for a long period, unless major changes occur in the political situation, or a truce agreement is reached with Hamas that may change the existing reality.”
A policy confirmed by the Minister of Defense
The military analyst pointed out the statements of the Israeli Defense Minister, Yisrael Katz, in his tweet, in which he said, “After we defeat Hamas, we will control Gaza as is the case in Judea and Samaria,” noting that these statements confirm the Israeli policy of not allowing the situation to return to what it was. Before the seventh of October, in reference to the Al-Aqsa flood attack launched by Hamas on Israel during that period.
According to what Zaytoun confirmed, the Israeli government and army seek “to limit Hamas’ ability to regroup its ranks and pose a new military threat, and they consider this a necessary step to ensure that Hamas does not regain its military strength, as the return of civilians to areas near Hamas strongholds may contribute to the return of Building their ability to move and plan.”
The military analyst explains the Israeli army’s plan by saying, “It is likely that the Israeli army will achieve the main and most important part of the generals’ plan: the systematic cleansing of large areas in the northern Gaza Strip from the enemy, one after another, without returning the residents of the Strip to their homes. The reason for this is that in order for it to succeed For Hamas to rehabilitate and recover, it needs two conditions: the presence of Gazans near its activists and leaders, and the absence of an alternative government in the Gaza Strip.
But on the other hand, he criticizes the policy of the Israeli government, in which Israel refuses to establish a ruling alternative to Hamas. He said, “If this policy does not change, it is expected that the Hamas regime will remain in Gaza for years to come, in addition to the generals’ plan that will raise criticism from inside and outside.”
He concludes by pointing out the repercussions of this plan, saying, “It is expected that the north of Gaza will remain an uninhabited area for a long time, and that the southern regions will be the only area that will accommodate the residents of Gaza if military operations continue.”
