The occupation forces two Palestinians to demolish their homes in Jerusalem news

Today, Saturday, the Israeli occupation authorities forced two Palestinians to demolish their homes in the occupied city of Jerusalem.

The Wadi Hilweh Human Rights Information Center in Jerusalem said that Jerusalemites Mahmoud Aqeel and Khader Shuqair were forced to self-demolish their homes, in order to avoid heavy fines that the occupation authorities might impose on them if they carried out the demolition.

The center said, on its Facebook page, “Al-Maqdisi Mahmoud Aqeel was forced to self-demolish his house in the town of Silwan by decision of the (Israeli) municipality under the pretext of building without a permit.”

He pointed out that the area of the house is 60 square meters, and it is inhabited by Aqeel, his wife, and his two children.

Aqeel told the center that about two years ago he received a violation to build the house, and 12 days ago he received a demolition order, adding, “We demolish the house ourselves so as not to destroy the rest of the existing house. We demolished it by mowing and manual demolition.”

According to the Information Center, Shuqairat’s house is located in the Jabal al-Mukaber neighborhood, and its area is about 50 square meters, and he lives in it with his wife and six children.

Shuqirat told the center, “The municipality came and handed us a demolition order, and insisted on demolishing the house and removing it permanently, and this is very expensive.”

According to a report by the Jerusalem Governorate, the occupation authorities carried out 404 demolitions in Jerusalem since the occupation escalated its measures in Jerusalem coinciding with the start of the war on Gaza on October 7, 2023, until mid-December.
