The Israeli Broadcasting Corporation said – today, Monday – that the Israeli army is examining a proposal for the post-war period in Gaza, whereby it would incur from time to time to carry out specific incursions into areas of the Gaza Strip, similar to its operations in the West Bank.
The authority stated that after the end of the war in Gaza, the army will prepare for the months following this stage to launch specific raids and incursions, with the goal being to establish an authority to manage these operations in Gaza as part of a division or even an additional brigade.
She revealed that among the proposals put forward for the first time on the discussion table is the establishment of a new additional force or even an expanded brigade to assume responsibility for the territory of the Gaza Strip, after the end of the ground operation and the end of the field fighting currently managed by the Southern Command of the Israeli army.
The Commission indicated that, according to estimates, the format will be similar to what is followed in areas of the West Bank, similar to the regional brigades that carry out operations against militants and resistance infrastructure.
No decision
But the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation indicated that although the army leadership has discussed this issue, a final decision has not yet been taken on this issue, and discussions are still ongoing.
She said that the Israeli army estimates that 2024 will be a year of confrontations, and that all reserve battalions will be required for at least one month of fighting in one of the sectors.
According to the same source, it is estimated that during this year the Israeli army will continue to fight, and that on the northern border with Lebanon, many forces will continue to be stationed in addition to fighting in the Gaza Strip.
She said that the current phase of the ground operation in the Gaza Strip will take a long time and its purpose is to reduce the level of Hamas’ resistance on the ground.
She added that the next phase of the fighting will be aimed at creating field control in the region, carrying out offensive operations from the ground and from the air, and creating conditions that allow the residents of the Gaza envelope settlements to return to them.
Israeli officials, led by Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu, have repeatedly revealed that Tel Aviv is seeking security control for an unspecified period of time over the Gaza Strip after the war, to ensure the elimination of the Hamas movement.
Netanyahu’s statements regarding excluding the Palestinian Authority from the post-war phase in the Gaza Strip contradict the position of Washington, which has repeatedly expressed the necessity of there being a Palestinian Authority after the war in the Gaza Strip, without clarifying its nature, and that the Palestinians should lead the new government that will be formed in Gaza after The end of the security period for which Israel will assume responsibility.
