More recently, in March, the administration of President Donald Trump arrested Rumeysa Ozturk, a Turkish student student student at Tofts University, and stripped her of his visa.
Her supporters say that she only did much more than co-writing an election of criticism of the University’s refusal to “recognize the Palestinian genocide”. Although she was released from government care, she continues to face the expulsion procedure.
A writer and criticism of culture, addressing Tel Aviv Tribune under cover of anonymity, explained that he feared that expressing themselves on questions like the war in Gaza could not compromise his status as a work visa in the United States.

Céline Parreñas Shimizu, the dean of the UCLA theater, cinema and television school, believes that voices like Nguyen can help break the silence that results from these repressions and threats.
“Critical acclamation,” she explained, “allows creativity in response to the forces seeking to silence”.
But she also warned that no praise could fully protect an author from damage to their reputation or lost opportunities.
“Critical or professional acclamation offers no real shield against the fundamental dehumanization of racism,” said byreñas Shimizu.
