The mother of an Israeli soldier, who was detained by the Palestinian resistance in the Gaza Strip, accused the Israeli army of deliberately killing her son during the assassination of the commander of the Izz al-Din al-Qassam Brigades – the military wing of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) – Ahmed Al-Ghandour in Jabalia, north of the Strip, last November. .
The mother of Sergeant Ron Sherman (19 years old), who was captured from an Israeli military base in the Gaza Strip on October 7, said that the army knew where her son and two other hostages with him were being held, but the army chose to sacrifice him to eliminate the commander of the Northern Brigade. In Hamas.
Sherman’s mother explained, in an interview with the Israeli Broadcasting Authority, that her son and his two companions died of suffocation due to the toxins of the bombs that were thrown to eliminate the Qassami leader, and she added, “Ron was deliberately killed by the Israeli army.”
On December 15, the occupation army announced that the bodies of Sherman, soldier Nick Beiser (19 years old) and Elijah Toledano (29 years old) were found in Gaza.
Maayan Sherman, the mother of the dead soldier, said, “Ron and Nick were kidnapped together while they were alive, without sustaining any injury. Their commander, General Ghassan Alian, told me that he and General Nitzan Alon knew where they were all along. A few weeks after the kidnapping, they received a sign that they were alive.” Despite this, they decided to bomb the place to eliminate a senior official (in Hamas). My son was sacrificed.”
Conflicting accounts
Sherman noted that the army changed its story of the incident several times, and said, “When they brought his body to Israel, they told us that he was killed by Hamas, and we did not doubt that.”
She explained that the medical report showed that he was not subjected to suffocation or any injury resulting from a gunshot or stabbing, “and we were told yesterday that they do not rule out that he inhaled toxic gases as a result of the IDF bombing.”
On the other hand, the Israeli Broadcasting Corporation indicated that the medical report, after examining the body of the dead soldier, stated that his body was intact and was not harmed except for broken fingers.
The authority said that the soldier’s parents wrote on his tombstone in a military cemetery, “He was kidnapped, abandoned, and sacrificed by the government supposedly responsible for the disaster of 2023.”
The tombstone disappeared a few days ago – according to what the broadcaster said – and the mother of the dead soldier commented, “It is certain that someone from the Israeli army did this (removing the tombstone) because they did not like it.”
The Israeli Broadcasting Authority confirmed that Sherman will place a similar headstone on her son’s grave, stressing her rejection of any dictates regarding what she writes on his grave.
