Israeli Chief of Staff Herzi Halevy said that the army is currently demobilizing some members of the reserve forces due to tension between the battlefield and the demands of life, according to what was reported by Israeli media.
The Walla website reported that Halevy told the commanders of the 99th Division in Gaza, “We understand the tension between the battlefield and home for reserve soldiers.”
He continued, “We act according to a plan and release some individuals, knowing that we will call them back.”
This comes after the occupation army withdrew – last Monday – the 36th Division from the Gaza Strip, which is one of the 4 military divisions that Israel deployed in its war on the Strip that has been ongoing for more than 100 days.
Before that, Israel withdrew some of its forces from several areas in the northern Gaza Strip after suffering losses in its battles with the Palestinian resistance.
Two months ago, the Israeli military spokesman announced that the army was seeking to reduce reserve soldiers in some of its rear formations, enabling it to maintain its capabilities to engage in combat for a long period.
The Israeli army had summoned between 300 and 360,000 reserve soldiers and officers following the Al-Aqsa Flood operation launched by the Palestinian resistance on October 7, 2023.
But the prolongation of the Israeli war on Gaza – which continues for the 106th day – without achieving its declared goals, and the escalation of losses among the army’s ranks, in addition to the economic cost, is putting pressure on the government of Benjamin Netanyahu.
