The Hungarian opposition on the lands of Viktor Orbán


Péter Magyar, the rising star and main challenger to Prime Minister Viktor Orbán, held a major campaign rally in Debrecen.

According to sources, around 10,000 people gathered in Hungary’s second city, a rural stronghold, rather favorable to Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz party.

Péter Magyar took the opportunity to denounce “the mafia that rules power” and declared war “to state propaganda.”

His side, Tisza“Respect and Freedom”, announced that it would present 12 candidates in the European elections on June 9, Péter Magyar will be the head of the list.

He also announced that he would present four candidates in the municipal elections in the capital, Budapest, the polls of which will take place on the same day.

According to recent polls, Péter Magyar’s party could obtain almost 25% of the vote, with Viktor Orbán’s Fidesz still well ahead with 45%.

Nearly 360 million Europeans are expected to vote from June 6 to 9, including just over 8 million Hungarians.
