Two Palestinian bodies said that the Israeli occupation army arrested 60 Palestinians in the occupied West Bank last night and Thursday morning, the highest daily toll since the beginning of this year.
The Palestinian Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club stated in a joint statement that “the total number of arrests after the seventh of last October amounted to more than 9,100 Palestinians.”
The statement added, “The Israeli occupation forces arrested at least 60 Palestinians from the West Bank from Wednesday evening until Thursday morning.”
The Palestinian Authority and the Club reported that “this toll is the highest since the beginning of this year, and among the detainees are two women and former prisoners.”
The new arrests were concentrated in the Qalqilya Governorate in the north, where 26 Palestinians were arrested, while the rest of the arrests were distributed in the governorates of Jerusalem, Ramallah (central), Hebron (south), and Nablus (north), according to the statement.
In parallel with its war on Gaza, since October 7, 2023, the Israeli army and settlers have escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which led to the death of 528 Palestinians and the injury of about 5,000, according to official Palestinian authorities.
The Israeli war on Gaza resulted in the killing and wounding of more than 119,000 Palestinians, most of them children and women, and about 10,000 missing people amid massive destruction and famine that claimed the lives of dozens.
Israel continues the war despite a decision by the UN Security Council to stop the fighting immediately, and orders from the International Court of Justice to end the invasion of Rafah, and take measures to prevent acts of “genocide” and improve the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza.
Tel Aviv is also challenging the request of International Criminal Court Prosecutor Karim Khan to issue arrest warrants against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu and his Defense Minister Yoav Galant for their responsibility for “war crimes” and “crimes against humanity” in Gaza.
