The heads of intelligence devices visit the Renaissance Dam .. What is the story? | news

In a first step of its kind, heads of intelligence and security services in East African countries made a field visit to the Renaissance Dam site, west of Ethiopia.

The visit took place on Wednesday on the sidelines of a regional meeting in Addis Ababa that included 13 heads of intelligence and security services from East African countries.

The delegation was briefed on the latest developments related to the progress of construction and employment work in the Renaissance Dam, and they listened to a detailed explanation of the technical and productive capabilities of the project.

The Deputy Director of the Renaissance Dam, Engineer Afraim Hili Mikel said that the Renaissance Dam has become completely in terms of structurally, and that it has entered the actual production phase as it currently produces about 1,800 megawatts of electricity, expecting that the productive capacity will rise to 2600 megawatts during the next three months.

He pointed out that Lake Al -Sadd was completely filled, which constitutes a strategic water reserve, which it described as a “water bank”, which can be relied upon to make up for any possible water deficit during the drought periods.

For his part, the Vice -President of the Ethiopian Security Agency, Tazer Qaiber Kizabihire, said that the visit of the heads of African security and intelligence services to the Renaissance Dam comes within the framework of the efforts of the Ethiopian government to present the facts related to the project, and the refutation of what he called rumors and misleading media campaigns that promote inaccurate information about the dam’s goals.

Timing

He explained that the visit took place in a very important time, in light of the approaching project of the Renaissance Dam from the final stages of the completion, and its transformation into an influential geopolitical reality in the region.

He stressed that the project is a practical evidence of the ability of African countries to implement major strategic projects, away from the stereotypes that question their ability to independent achievement.

Commenting on the visit, the Ethiopian researcher Kiram Tadisi said that the inclusion of the Renaissance Dam is within the agenda of the heads of security and intelligence services in East Africa not only can be read as a protocol visit, but also a step that reflects an Ethiopian attempt to transfer the dam from being a national project, to redefine it as an African development project, seen as a collective benefit for a continent facing development and climate challenges Increased.

Tadsi explained that this visit, which is the first of its kind, is an indication of the emergence of a new trend in the path of regional intelligence cooperation, is to expand the concept of security to include the protection of cross -border infrastructure projects.

In an interview with Al -Jazeera Net, he indicated that projects such as the Renaissance Dam are no longer classified as purely local issues, but rather they have become intertwined in the comprehensive security system.
