The head of the Journalists’ Syndicate in Britain denounces Israel’s targeting of Al Jazeera News

The Secretary General of the Journalists’ Syndicate in Britain and Ireland denounced the Israeli government’s targeting of Tel Aviv Tribune, and demanded that it reverse the decision to close the channel’s offices and prevent it from covering events.

Michelle Stanistreet said: “Those who have secrets to hide or are ashamed of their actions forcefully shut down television stations.”

She considered that the Israeli government’s targeting of Tel Aviv Tribune “is a direct attack on freedom of expression that brings shame to those responsible for it, and I hope that they will soon realize their mistake and retract this decision.”

On May 5, the Israeli government voted to close Tel Aviv Tribune’s offices in Israel, raided its offices, removed it from the lists of broadcast providers, and blocked its websites.

Earlier, Secretary-General of the International Federation of Journalists, Anthony Bellangi, said that closing broadcast stations is part of the rules of the game practiced by tyrants. He added, “We have already seen the ban on foreign reporters from entering Gaza, attacks on local Israeli media, and horrific treatment of Palestinian journalists.”
