The foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council countries called for a ceasefire in Gaza and Lebanon, and warned of the dangerous repercussions of the ongoing escalation in the region.

In a final statement issued on Wednesday evening at the conclusion of the 45th extraordinary ministerial meeting in Doha, the foreign ministers of the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the ongoing escalation in the Lebanese and Palestinian territories, and warned of its dangerous repercussions on the region, stressing that it constitutes a threat to peace and security in the world.

The final statement stressed the need to protect the security of the region and avoid the expansion of the war.

Regarding Lebanon, the Ministerial Council stressed the necessity of implementing Security Council Resolution No. 1701 and the Taif Agreement to restore permanent security and stability in this country, and to ensure respect for its sovereignty within its internationally recognized borders.

The ministers meeting in Doha affirmed what was stated in the statement issued late last month by Saudi Arabia, Qatar, the Emirates, the United States and other countries, which calls for an immediate ceasefire for a period of 21 days across the Blue Line separating the southern border of Lebanon, and to move towards a diplomatic settlement that will avoid the region from the risk of outbreak of war. Regional war.

Regarding the situation in the Palestinian territories, the Ministerial Council of the Gulf Cooperation Council condemned the aggression against Gaza and the West Bank, and announced its support for efforts aimed at a ceasefire in the Strip.

The final statement called for an immediate and permanent ceasefire in Gaza, an end to the siege imposed on the Strip, the release of “hostages” and detainees, and ensuring the delivery of aid to the population.

The extraordinary Gulf meeting stressed the centrality of the Palestinian issue, ending the Israeli occupation, establishing an independent Palestinian state with East Jerusalem as its capital, and supporting its sovereignty over all Palestinian territories occupied since June 1967.
