Doha, Qatar – Haya al-Barai is preparing for another quiet Ramadan in Qatar. She will mark the sacred Muslim month with her grandmother far from her house.

The 16 -year -old man arrived in the capital of Qatar in December 2023 after his parents were killed in Israeli air attacks. Al-Barai was injured during the attacks and is now paraplegic.
One of his sisters, who was also injured, is in Türkiye. His other two sisters and a brother remain in Gaza.
“I don’t want to celebrate Ramadan here. I appreciated Ramadan with my family. We would eat and play games together. My family was together at that time, ”said Haya.
The War of Israel against Gaza since October 2023 left more than 38,000 Palestinians orphans.
About 1,400 Palestinians were evacuated to Doha with nearly 500 of them injured.
Most of them now reside in a Thumama complex, on the southern outskirts of the capital of Qatar.
For Muslims around the world, Ramadan is a period of fasting, prayer and reflection, and also a moment to share with dear beings.
For many Palestinian evacuated in Doha, this Ramadan marks another year of separation from their family in Gaza.
Hamsa Al-Raqp, 12, lost her left eye and broke his right arm during an Israeli air attack. She remembers the happiness of playing games with her cousins during Ramadan in Gaza.
His father, Maher, said that the family had not celebrated Ramadan since the start of the war in Gaza.
“Last year, like murder, we did nothing for Ramadan. I watched television all day and I worried about my family still in Gaza. I check them every day just to make sure they are alive, ”said Maher. “This year Ramadan is making no difference for me, because my wife and three children stay in Gaza.”
