The European Summit, which was held in Brussels, condemned the escalation, settlement violence, and the illegal expansion of Israeli settlements and military operations in the West Bank, and also called for an immediate end of the war on the Gaza Strip.

Although the European Summit statement called for the imposition of sanctions on extremist settlers and their supporters, it was devoid of talking about possible sanctions on Israel, despite the internal testimony of the Union that it violated the partnership agreement with it.

The summit statement indicated that a report on Israel’s compliance with the partnership agreement with the European Union will be discussed next July, amid the continued pressure and demands from some member states to impose sanctions on Tel Aviv, as happened with Moscow.

The European Chamber of Diplomatic Affairs stated last week that there are indications that Israel has violated its human rights obligations under the terms of the agreement that regulates its relations with the European Union.

The leaders of the bloc said that “the European Council is aware of the report regarding Israel’s compliance with the second article of the partnership agreement between the European Union and Israel, and we call on the council to continue the discussions regarding the follow -up of the matter, as needed, in July 2025, taking into account the development of the situation on the ground.”

In addition, the European Union also called for an immediate ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the unconditional release of all Israeli prisoners, and called on Israel to lift the entire siege, and to allow humanitarian aid without obstacles.

The statement condemned the catastrophic humanitarian situation in Gaza, especially the famine and the fall of civilian victims, blaming the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) responsible for its refusal to hand over the remaining “hostages”, and called for more penalties on it.

On the Iranian issue, the statement stressed the need for Tehran not to have a nuclear weapon and support the diplomatic solution.

French condemnation of settlers’ violence

In the same context, France condemned – today, Thursday, the repeated attacks by settlers over the Palestinians in the occupied West Bank, and called on the Israeli government for decisive measures to stop their violence.

The French Foreign Ministry stated that Paris condemns the repeated attacks by Israeli settlers against the Palestinians in the West Bank, noting that during the past few days, 4 Palestinians have been killed in the towns of Kafr Malik near Ramallah, and a photo near Hebron (south of the West Bank).

France called on the Israeli government to take decisive measures to end the violence practiced by extremist settlers.

She indicated that she reaffirms her condemnation of settlement activity and her severe opposition to any form of annexation (for the Palestinian territories).

She emphasized that at the national level, France adopted 59 individual penalties for extremist settlers who practiced violence against Palestinian civilians in the West Bank.

The settlers’ attack in Kafr Malik was met with a Palestinian condemnation, which was also joined by Israeli politicians, such as the leader of the opposition Democrats, Yair Golan, describing what happened in the village as a violent Jewish massacre.

During last May, Israeli settlers committed 415 attacks in the occupied West Bank, according to the data of the Wall Resistance and Settlement Authority (Palestinian government).

The Broadcasting Authority stated that the attacks ranged between armed attacks on Palestinian villages, imposing facts on the ground, field executions, sabotage, bulldozing lands, uprooting trees, seizing property, closure and barriers that cut off the bonds of Palestinian geography.

Parallel to the extermination in the Gaza Strip, the Israeli army and the settlers escalated their attacks in the West Bank, including East Jerusalem, which led to the death of at least 986 Palestinians, the injury of about 7,000 others, and the arrest of more than 17 thousand and 500, according to Palestinian data.

Israel, with American support, has launched, since October 7, 2023, a group of genocide in Gaza, which left more than 188,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11 thousand missing, in addition to hundreds of thousands of displaced people and the famine that has been tired of many children, including children.
