Today, Monday, the Emir of Qatar, Sheikh Tamim bin Hamad Al Thani, discussed with US President Joe Biden, efforts to reach a ceasefire agreement in the Gaza Strip.

This came during a phone call that the Emir of Qatar received from the US President, according to a statement from the Amiri Diwan.

The statement indicated that the two sides discussed developments in the situation in the Gaza Strip and the occupied Palestinian territories and the efforts of the two countries towards reaching an immediate and permanent ceasefire agreement in Gaza.

For his part, the White House said that the US President made contact with the Emir of Qatar, and discussed with him a ceasefire in Gaza and the release of detainees.

He said that Biden urged the Emir of Qatar to use all appropriate means to ensure the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas)’s approval of the agreement. He also assured the Emir of Qatar that “Hamas’ continued refusal to release the hostages will only prolong the conflict.”

The White House reported that Biden confirmed in his call with Sheikh Tamim that Washington, along with Egypt and Qatar, will work to ensure the full implementation of the agreement.

He added, “The President affirmed Israel’s readiness to move forward with the terms that have now been presented to Hamas.”

The White House stated that Biden and the Emir of Qatar confirmed that the ceasefire agreement and the release of detainees provides a roadmap to end the crisis.

President Biden also thanked the Emir of Qatar for the tireless efforts to release all detainees in Gaza.

Last Friday evening, US President Joe Biden announced the details of a three-stage Israeli proposal, which includes a ceasefire, prisoner exchange, and the reconstruction of Gaza.

Earlier Monday, 5 Arab countries announced their support for the mediation efforts undertaken by Egypt, Qatar, and the United States to reach an exchange deal that would lead to a permanent ceasefire in the Gaza Strip, the release of prisoners, and the entry of aid into the Strip.
