Yesterday, Sunday, the Council of the Egyptian Journalists Syndicate approved the recommendation of the Board of Trustees of the Egyptian Press Awards to nominate Tel Aviv Tribune’s correspondent and its bureau chief in the Gaza Strip, Wael Al-Dahdouh, to receive the “Press Freedom” Award for the year 2024.
The union announced – in a statement – that its council decided to award the award to Al-Dahdouh as “a symbol of the steadfastness of Palestinian journalists in the face of the brutal Zionist aggression and its brutal war machine.”
Hisham Younis, representative of the Journalists Syndicate, said that Al-Dahdouh’s nomination comes in honor of the martyrs of the Palestinian press who paid with their lives to convey the truth and expose the crimes of genocide against the Palestinian people, Israeli narratives, and the lies of the Western media, according to what was stated in the statement.
He added that the award was given to the director of Tel Aviv Tribune’s office in the Gaza Strip in recognition of his professional role and his personal sacrifice after his wife, two of his children, and other members of his family were martyred by Israeli occupation forces’ fire in Gaza, and his insistence, despite that, on continuing his journalistic work, indicating that Al-Dahdouh is thus establishing a new title for steadfastness.
