Palestinian human rights sources confirmed the death of a prisoner in the Israeli Megiddo prison yesterday evening, Monday, which brings the number of Palestinian prisoners who have died in prisons to 7, since the start of the Israeli aggression on Gaza.

The Prisoners’ and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said in a joint statement yesterday, Monday, that the occupation prison administration carried out a new assassination against prisoner Abdul Rahman Bassem Al-Bahash (23 years old) from Nablus in Megiddo prison. He has been detained since May 31, 2022 and has been sentenced to imprisonment for a period of time. 35 months.

The statement added that Abdul Rahman Al-Bahsh will thus become the seventh martyr in the occupation prisons, after October 7, 2023.

The statement confirmed that Megiddo Prison “was one of the prisons that witnessed horrific crimes and systematic torture against prisoners after the seventh of last October, in which three prisoners were killed before prisoner Abdul Rahman Al-Bahash.”

The spokesman for the Israeli Occupation Prisons Service said in a statement that the death of a security prisoner from Megiddo prison was reported, adding that “he was serving a prison sentence on charges of shooting, contacting a hostile organization, and violations for carrying an illegal weapon.”

Hamas denounces

For his part, the official in charge of the Office of Martyrs and Prisoners of the Islamic Resistance Movement Hamas, Zaher Jabareen, denounced the occupation forces’ assassination of a seventh prisoner inside its prisons since the beginning of the aggression on Gaza.

Zaher said in a press statement – yesterday evening, Monday – that the occupation authorities committed a new assassination crime against prisoners with the martyrdom of prisoner Al-Bahash, noting that this crime comes with reports of field executions, brutal torture, and inhumane conditions, to which prisoners are exposed in the occupation prisons.

Since the start of the war, the Israeli army has carried out a massive arrest campaign in the occupied West Bank, including former leaders and officials of the Hamas movement and other Palestinian factions.

According to the Palestinian Authority for Prisoners and Ex-Prisoners’ Affairs, the number of those arrested by Israel since the outbreak of the war has exceeded 4,910 people, a number that includes those who were arrested from homes and through military checkpoints.
