Additional dozens have been killed because Israeli soldiers once again opened fire on the crowd trying to reach Israeli and American food distribution centers in Gaza.
The Israeli army did not immediately comment on Monday fire, reported in Tel Aviv Tribune by medical sources. The 38 people killed, mainly in the Rafah region in the south, have made it the deadliest day since the launch of the new aid system.
After the previous shots, which were an almost daily event since the opening of the aid centers three weeks ago, the army said that its soldiers had shot warning on what it called the suspects approaching their positions, although he did not say if these gunshots hit someone.
The Palestinians say they are faced with the choice of hungry death or risked making their way after the Israeli forces to reach distribution points, which are led by a private entrepreneur, the Gaza Humanitarian Foundation (GHF).
Until now, more than 300 people have been killed and more than 2,000 injured while trying to collect the help of GHF sites, which began to operate at the end of May.
The Palestinians are desperate to feed families suffering from hunger in the midst of the food shortages created by the Israeli blockade of the enclave. An aid net has been authorized since last month.
Israel and the United States say that the GHF system aims to replace the United Nations humanitarian operation that had provided Gaza aid since the war started 20 months ago.
Israel maintains that the new mechanism is necessary to prevent Hamas from siphoning aid.
However, the United Nations agencies and the main aid groups deny that there is a flight of aid generalized by Hamas and rejected the new system.
They say that he cannot meet the needs of the population and transforms food into a weapon so that Israel achieves its military objectives, in particular on the move of the more than two million Palestinians in a “sterile” enclave in the south of Gaza.
Speaking on Monday at the British Foreign Affairs Committee of the House of Commons, a person in charge of doctors without borders (or doctors without borders, known by its French acronym MSF) said that the assertions of Israel of Diversion extended by Hamas were “specious and cynical”, and had to “undermine a humanitarian system that actually worked”.
“It is neither a humanitarian company nor a system. It is essentially deadly chaos,” said Anna Halford, coordinator on the group’s field.
Experts warn that the continuing military campaign of Israel and the restrictions at the entrance of the aid put Gaza at the risk of famine.
The War of Israel against Gaza killed at least 55,432 people and injured 128,923, according to the Gaza Ministry of Health.
It is estimated that 1,139 people were killed in Israel during the October 7 attacks and more than 200 were taken in captivity.
