In a small Swedish town covered by forests, and behind its calmness is a crime that occurred in the past, and renewed at the present time, the events of the series “Glass Dome”, a series of crime and psychological suspense produced by Netflix. The series is written by Swedish writer Camilla Lakberg, Amanda Higberg, and Excel Stern, and directed by Henrik Piurne and Lezen Farzana, and it is shown in six intense and exhausted episodes.
The series revolves around Laila Nice, who plays her role “Leoni Vincent”, the legitimate doctor and an analyst of behavior that belongs to her hometown after her adopting mother’s death, to appear at the same time the crime of kidnapping a girl, to which her painful past and the memories of her kidnapping in her childhood will appear. John Heidenberg participates in the role of her father, Falter Nice, a retired investigator who hides a fatal secret. The series belongs to the quality of crime literature and Scandinavian suspense (Nordic Noir), which is a literary and television type that appeared in northern European countries and achieved wide fame thanks to its own airspace, dark features and slow rhythm.
What if our childhood stole those who loved them?
The first episode begins with the return of the legitimate doctor, Laila Nice, to her quiet town after her adopting mother dies, but her return soon opens doors to mysterious questions without answers, especially after her childhood friend Louise was killed in mysterious circumstances and the kidnapping of her daughter Alicia. This modern crime intersects with a painful past by Laila, as the memories of her kidnapping begins as a child by appearing in blurry and confused scenes. Those pictures are due to the period of being imprisoned in a dark and narrow place, where they flash between the present and the past without a time arrangement, so that it seems to the viewer sometimes, that the trembling girl may be a picture of the memory. Or perhaps a reality repeated again.
Time inside the series turns into a fragile and unstable space, where the personality of the woman who is looking for the kidnapped girl overlaps with the girl who has not yet recovered from her kidnapping shock. Whenever Leila approached the truth, she felt that she was drifting towards the same glass cage, which she never left. This overlap between the past and the present not only enhances the suspense in the plot, but also reveals the fragility of the human psyche when it is forced to coexist with a shock that has not been completely recovered from it.

Between the investigation and the heroine memory
The plot is not only directed towards the unpopularity of the new crime, but rather the psychological layers that gradually reveal within the inner heroine world. With the escalation of the investigation into the killing of Louise and the kidnapping of the child Alicia, doubts about Father Said, the stranger from the town, sneaks, revealing levels of social discrimination against him, without being said clearly, but rather infiltrated the looks and passes.
In the depth, the memory of Laila begins to dive beyond the present, as she returns to her past a adopted child, and she begins to question the official novel that she has grown up. Memories do not come clear, but as intermittent shades: closed doors, a child trembling in the dark, her face reflected on cold glass. Something in these pictures makes her wonder: Was her “savvy” childhood really? Or was it a prison enveloped with the apparent tenderness? These doubts grow because of her relationship with her adoptive father, and she swings between feelings of tenderness and fear, as if something unspoken clouds their relationship, something that no one dares to say.
The first half of the series turns into a psychological journey through the memory of Laila, in which she regains seasons of childhood that is silent, and disintegrates layers of societal silence and collusion, as if what was installed in the past began to demand his truth now.
When the truth sneaks through memory
In the fourth and fifth episode of the series, the facts come out from shadow to light, and Leila approaches the answer that she tries to escape from, and the question does not become about who committed the crime only, but whoever conceals it also, and he kept guarding the glass cage for years, especially after the appearance of a witness in the modern kidnapping issue, carrying some features, remembering it with its past, and stimulating his existence more clear memories of its past It has time and the past interferes with the present.
Laila’s tension is escalating and her doubts are increasing, when she discovers that she is surrounded by a network of lies from everyone she loves. Her small family turns into strangers that you do not know, the nightmares increase and coincide with what is happening in reality, and the appearance of white light that dominates the glass cage is repeated, as a visual signal to the exposure of the old secret.
In these two episodes, masks fall, the motives are exposed and the circle of doubt about the “Falter” father with adoption that appeared that his love for the night is just a great illusion. Laila succeeds as an investigator to show the truth, but she is defeated as a daughter with the same truth.
The last explosion .. when the dome is broken
The series reaches its peak in the sixth and final episode, and the question changes to become: How did Laila endure the lie years? The father was not the protector, but he was the prisoner who wasolated her in a glass room, and he deluded her as a gift for him after he lost his daughter. The narrative that Laila lived for years collapses, and the glass dome is manifested as a symbol of possession and distorted love, when the viewer knows that the affectionate father after the loss of his biological daughter, he was unable to face the emotional gap that occurred inside him, so he committed the crime of kidnapping Laila, and when she started independence from him, he reaped the crime by kidnapping Elissia, to compensate for that permanent need for a daughter under his full control.
