The Brazilian public prosecutor requested today, Tuesday, to condemn former President Jayer Bolsonaro to plan a coup, in the closing arguments after a trial that witnessed the intervention of US President Donald Trump in the interest of his right -wing ally.

The Public Prosecutor called on the Brazilian Supreme Court to charge Bolsonaro the charge of seeking to cancel the results of the 2022 elections, which his left -wing president Luis Inacio Lula Da Silva won.

The prosecution informed the court that Bolsonaro – a former army officer – and 7 others formed a “armed criminal gang” in order to “overthrow the democratic regime with violence.”

If convicted, Polsonaro and those accused with a prison sentence of up to 40 years face. Polsonaro, who served as president from 2019 to 2023, says he is a victim of political persecution.

On the other hand, the claimants say that after Lol’s victory, Bolsonaro arranged a conspiracy but failed because the army did not stand by his side, then carried out its supporters riots and stormed government buildings in the capital, Brasilia, in scenes that brought back to mind the attack of Trump’s supporters on the Capitol building after its defeat in 2020.

Trump entered into the call to stop the trial of Bolsonaro, accusing the authorities of launching a “brochure campaign” against him, as he threatened on July 9th of the imposition of 50% customs duties on Brazilian imports to the United States, but had it not been for a response to Trump, stressing that “no one is above the law.”
