The Palestinian Prisoners’ Club said that it had received more testimonies about horrific cases of torture of Palestinians arrested by the Israeli army in Gaza, as well as cases of torture of detainees from the occupied West Bank.
The club said in a statement, “Testimonies are mounting from detainees from Gaza who were recently released, containing horrific details of the torture and abuse carried out by the occupation army against them, and their bodies are witness to it.”
He added that the Israeli occupation authorities continue to carry out the crime of enforced disappearance against them, and refuse to disclose their fate, places of detention, and numbers since the beginning of the aggression, “noting that among them are female prisoners, including children and elderly women.”
The club called on all international human rights institutions – led by the United Nations – to pressure the occupation to reveal their fate, and to stop the torture and abuse to which the prisoners are subjected.
The Prisoners’ Club distributed a video clip showing an elderly man with bruises and wounds on his feet and wrists, and stated that he was one of a group of Gaza detainees who were recently released from Israeli prisons.
Hit with batons and guns
In this context, the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority and the Prisoners’ Club revealed in a joint statement that prisoner Nael Barghouti (66 years old) was subjected to torture during his transfer from Ofer Prison, west of Ramallah, to Gilboa Prison, northern Israel.
The statement said that Al-Barghouti was severely beaten with batons and rifle butts by the repression units all over his body, and the assault on him and his fellow prisoners continued for 3 continuous hours.
He confirmed that the incident occurred about two months ago and was reported to him by a lawyer affiliated with the Prisoners’ Affairs Authority during his visit to Shatta Prison (North).
The statement quoted Al-Barghouti as saying that the attack on them focused on the chest and ribs, causing the majority of the prisoners to suffer fractures and bruises.
Barghouti was liberated in an exchange deal between Hamas and Israel in 2011, then he was re-arrested in 2014, and his life sentence was returned to him, so far he has spent a total of 44 years in Israeli prisons, which is the highest period among prisoners.
Yesterday, Sunday, the number of Palestinian detainees in the West Bank rose to 4,695 since last October 7.
These arrests coincide with a devastating war waged by Israel on the Gaza Strip, which has so far left 20,424 martyrs and 54,36 wounded, most of them children and women.
