His world crumbled beneath his feet last year.

“Today begins the most difficult match of my life: a fight for the truth. I was informed that I had tested positive for a substance called Roxadustat in extremely low quantities. This is the biggest shock of my life”, Simona Halep announced on X (formerly Twitter) in October 2022.

The International Tennis Integrity Agency (ITIA) announced in September 2023 that an independent court had sentenced Simona Halep to four years of suspension for the anti-doping rule violation.

The double Grand Slam champion is banned from the courts until 2026.

The former world number 1 denies it outright. She hopes that this decision will soon be overturned by the Court of Arbitration for Sport. His hearing is set for February.

“I will fight to the end to prove that I have never deliberately taken a banned substance,” assured the Romanian player on X (formerly Twitter).
