The State of Qatar continues its efforts to mediate between the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas) and Israel, in partnership with Egypt and the United States of America, in an effort to reach a ceasefire agreement in Gaza, according to a proposal put forward by US President Joe Biden last May.
Accusations are mounting against Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu of obstructing mediation efforts and thwarting attempts to reach an agreement for his own personal and political considerations.
Qatari mediation – with Egyptian and American support – succeeded in reaching a temporary humanitarian truce in Gaza on November 24 between Hamas and Israel. The truce lasted for a week, during which 240 Palestinian prisoners were released from the occupation prisons in exchange for the release of more than 100 detainees held by the resistance in Gaza, including about 80 Israelis.
