Advancement of rebel forces towards the south of the country

According to the United Nations Office for the Coordination of Humanitarian Affairs (OCHA), at least 44 people were killed, including 12 children, and more than 48,500 people were displaced, since the resumption of hostilities on November 26.
Key infrastructure, including hospitals, schools and water points, was also damaged.
More fragmented than ever, the Syrian territory opposes a multitude of belligerents. In addition to the Assad regime and the opposition forces, there are Kurdish fighters in the north and east, Turkish factions which control part of the northwest and the Islamic State organization, withdrawn into the Syrian desert in the south of the country.
