As a result of the war in Ukraine, the Swiss government also plans to increase its defense budget, which will grow by 19% over the next four years.

According to Defense Minister Viola Amherd, cost-cutting measures taken over the past 30 years have weakened the country’s armed forces “especially with regard to ground troops” (…) “it is important for me to emphasize here that this is not an accusation, but a fact which can be understood from the situation at the time, after the fall of the Berlin Wall.”

Although a neutral country, Switzerland will follow the same trend as most European countries which have increased their budgets since the Russian invasion of Ukraine.
