Extreme temperatures combined with strong winds and snowfall caused damage in Scandinavian countries on Thursday. Thousands of homes were left without power, while motorists were stranded on a highway in southern Sweden for hours.

“I have type 1 diabetes, which means I have to eat regularly, which I haven’t done in a day and a half. I’ve read a lot on Facebook that there are a lot of kids who are panicking, who haven’t eaten for almost 24 hours”worries Norah Andersen, a driver stuck in her car.

In the north of the country, temperatures fell to -43.6 degrees. This cold, which will persist for a few more days, will settle in other parts of Europe, particularly in France.
