Swedish police on Tuesday forcibly removed climate activist Greta Thunberg, who was blocking the entrance to the Swedish Parliament with other climate activists.
Greta Thunberg and several other environmental activists were evacuated by police after blocking entrances to the Swedish Riksdag as part of climate action.
The activists had positioned themselves outside the parliament building and refused to move. After a few minutes, several of them, including Ms Thunberg, were taken away by the police.
“I think our laws protect the wrong things. I think our laws should be there to protect people’s well-being, not the rights of corporations to pollute the planet.” said Greta Thunberg. The action began on Monday. According to police, the activists do not have a permit for the demonstration and the incident will result in a report of violation of the Public Order Act. The activists voluntarily left the scene Monday morning and returned Tuesday morning.
“Parliament and elected representatives are of course a fundamental element of democracy, but so is the right to protest.” she said.
