Suspect in alleged assassination attempt against Donald Trump charged

FBI charges Ryan Wesley Routh with targeted the former American president Donald Trump at his golf club in West Palm Beach, Florida, on Sunday.

FBI document reveals that The suspect hid for 12 hours in the hedges of the golf clubAuthorities discovered an SKS-type assault rifle, a GoPro camera and a bag containing food at the scene.

The 58-year-old now faces two federal firearms charges.

Ryan Routh faces up to 20 years in prison

The first charge – possession of a firearm despite a prior felony conviction – faces a 15-year sentence, a $250,000 (€225,000) fine and a three-year period of supervised release.

The second charge – possession of a firearm with a defaced serial number – is liable to a five-year prison sentence, the same fine and three years of supervised release.

For now, Ryan Routh is therefore not charged with attempted murder.

If the motive remains unclear, the suspecthas repeatedly shared his support for Kyiv on several social networks and he claims to have set up a program to recruit international volunteers to defend Ukraine against Russian invasion.

Ukrainian soldiers and members of the Foreign Legion have denounced Ryan Routh’s actions.
