Spring floods: Europeans have their feet in the water

Several rivers overflowed in Belgium, causing significant flooding. In the east of France, the situation is gradually improving.

From Slovenia via Germany and Italy, many Europeans have their feet in water after the heavy rains of recent days.

This is also the case in Belgium. The commune of Fourons experienced the most significant floods ever recorded.

The local river overflowed, flooding the area. The water level has now dropped and clean-up work can begin.

But 500 families were deprived of electricity.

Belgian Prime Minister Alexander De Croo visited the site on Saturday to see the damage and discuss mutual aid mechanisms.

In the east of France, the situation is gradually improving. Sunday morning, only two departments remained on orange alert due to flooding, according to Météo France. These are Moselle and Bas-Rhin

But the material damage is significant. Vehicles were destroyed and many houses were damaged by the rising waters.

Traffic remains complicated in places. The A4 and A31 motorways have been partially closed.
