The “Rapa das bestas” festival in Sabucedo dates back to the 15th century and is held every year during the first week of July. According to its organizers, who describe it as a noble confrontation between man and horseit attracts more and more visitors every year.

During this festival, young people from Sabucedo and the surrounding area go to the mountains at dawn. Their goal is to find wild horses living in the area to bring them back to the village.

The animals are led to an enclosure, the “curro”, where participants cut their manes, treat injured horses and brand foals.

As night falls, participants gather to share food, wine and music.
