Spanish Defense Minister: The Gaza war is a real genocide News

Spanish Defense Minister Margarita Robles on Saturday described the war in Gaza as a “true genocide,” in light of the deterioration of relations between Israel and Spain after Madrid’s decision to recognize the Palestinian state.

Robles’ statements came during an interview with the official TVE television, during which she also said, “We cannot ignore what is happening in Gaza, which is a real genocide.” She added that Madrid’s recognition of the State of Palestine is not a move against Israel, noting that it aims to help “end the violence in Gaza.”

She added, stressing, “This is not against anyone. This is not against the State of Israel. This is not against the Israelis whom we respect.”

Foreign Affairs Minister Jose Manuel Albarez said – in a post on the X website today – “The precautionary measures taken by the International Court of Justice, which included the decision to stop the Israeli attack in Rafah, are mandatory and we demand their implementation.”

Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sanchez said on Wednesday that if more countries recognized the Palestinian state, this would increase international pressure for a ceasefire between Israel and the Palestinian Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas).

Yesterday, Friday, Spanish Deputy Prime Minister Yolanda Diaz said that Palestine will be liberated from the river to the sea, in a statement that angered the Israeli occupation.

Diaz’s statements came in a video clip circulated by activists on social media, in which she explained that Spain’s move – to recognize the Palestinian state on May 28 – is just the beginning.

The Deputy Prime Minister of Spain pledged to continue pressure from her position in the government to defend human rights and put an end to the genocide committed against the Palestinian people.

Diaz, who also holds the position of Minister of Labor and Economy, added, “We are living in a moment in which doing the minimum is considered heroic, but at the same time it is not enough.”

She concluded her speech by saying, “Palestine will be liberated from the river to the sea,” referring to the Jordan River and the Mediterranean Sea, between which Palestine lies.
