Reappointed at the head of a country more divided than ever, the Spanish Prime Minister has kept most of the heavyweights of the previous government in their posts in the face of opposition that has come to a head against his controversial amnesty project.

The socialist leader maintains a tight government of 22 ministries, twelve of which are headed by women.

The new government will have the difficult task of calming the country, which is facing strong tensions due to the decision taken by Pedro Sánchez to concede the upcoming adoption of an amnesty law to the Catalan separatists.

Coming second in the last legislative elections, Pedro Sanchez was returned to power, in particular thanks to the support of the Catalan separatists. In exchange he promised amnesty to those involved in the attempted separation of Catalonia in 2017.
