Since his election on August 7 as the head of the Islamic Resistance Movement (Hamas), succeeding the martyr Ismail Haniyeh, Yahya Sinwar has not issued any statement due to the nature of the battle in the Gaza Strip.
This is despite the fact that movement sources indicate that Sinwar, since his election, has reorganized the movement’s internal affairs after Haniyeh’s assassination, and has assigned figures from the movement to assume some responsibilities and positions and confirmed others in their positions, but this remained within the framework of internal work and organization.
The three messages sent by Sinwar to Algerian President Abdelmadjid Tebboune, Secretary-General of the Lebanese Hezbollah, Hassan Nasrallah, and leader of the Yemeni Ansar Allah group, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, after assuming the leadership of the movement, show that he has begun to move politically and deal with the political files required by the stage.
These messages also show that “the occupation is unable to achieve one of its most important goals, which is to dismantle the Hamas movement and reach its leaders,” according to writer and researcher Sari Arabi.
Algeria and diplomatic messages
Sinwar’s message to the Algerian president to congratulate him on winning the presidential elections was the first step in the man’s foreign policy, and this choice had several implications.
Algeria is one of the countries that has relations with the movement and has a representative there. It is also one of the countries that supports the Palestinian cause and has sought to reach a reconciliation between the Palestinian factions.
Algeria is also a temporary member of the UN Security Council and has played an important role since the aggression on Gaza in the Security Council sessions and in defending the Palestinian cause through its presence in the Council.
In his message, Sinwar praised “the Algerian role in standing by the Palestinian people and defending their rights in international forums.”
In his message, he expressed his aspirations for “the continuation and development of this supportive and backing role for the Palestinians,” and linked the Algerian revolution with the resistance of the Palestinian people to achieve “liberation, return, and the establishment of an independent Palestinian state with full sovereignty and Jerusalem as its capital.”
Hezbollah and support fronts
Two days after President Tebboune’s message, Hezbollah announced that its Secretary-General, Hassan Nasrallah, had received a message from Sinwar.
While Sinwar’s message to Tebboune was primarily political and diplomatic, his message to Nasrallah had military dimensions and was more profound.
The message came to emphasize the unity of the arenas and the nature of the relationship between Hamas and Hezbollah, especially in the midst of the Battle of the Flood of Al-Aqsa, as the work of the support fronts and their development “supports the resistance in Gaza,” according to researcher and specialist in strategic affairs Saeed Ziad in his interview with Tel Aviv Tribune.
The message also came as an appreciation for the party’s position during the war, as special sources told Tel Aviv Tribune Net that Nasrallah and the party’s military council decided from the first day of the war on the Gaza Strip to support and back the resistance there, which is what actually happened and affected the form and nature of the battle and the formation of a front to distract Israel.
The message also shows that the unity of the arenas has been achieved, as Brigadier General Mohammed Abbas, an expert in military and strategic affairs, told Tel Aviv Tribune.
Al Houthi.. Multiple messages
Three days had not passed since Sinwar’s message to Hassan Nasrallah when he sent a message to the leader of Ansar Allah, Abdul-Malik al-Houthi, after the operation to launch the hypersonic missile at Tel Aviv yesterday.
According to many observers, Sinwar’s message to Al Houthi carried many messages, the most prominent of which was the strength of the resistance and that it is still capable of managing the battle, and it expresses the resistance’s vision for the future of the battle and Israel.
The letter stated that “Al-Qassam Brigades fought the October 7 attack with unparalleled skill and has been waging a defensive battle for an entire year that has exhausted and inflicted heavy losses on the enemy.” He also assured Al-Houthi that “the resistance is fine and that what the enemy is announcing is nothing but lies and psychological warfare.”
According to Saeed Ziad, the message also shows that “Sinwar, the planner of the Al-Aqsa Flood, was aware of what might happen during the battle and that the resistance had prepared for such a battle, and that it had prepared itself for a battle of attrition.”
This is what Al-Sinwar emphasized in his message, in which he stated that the resistance has prepared itself “to fight a long battle of attrition that will break the enemy’s political will, just as the Al-Aqsa Flood broke its military will.”
It is noteworthy that what Sinwar mentioned in his message to Al-Houthi is a confirmation of what he had previously mentioned in a lengthy message he had sent to the leadership of the Hamas movement abroad months ago, in which he indicated that “the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades are waging a fierce, violent and unprecedented battle against the Zionist occupation forces.”
He stressed in the letter that “the Qassam Brigades marginalized the occupation army, and it is continuing on the path of marginalizing it, and will not submit to the conditions of the occupation.”
Hence, it can be said that the battles witnessed by the resistance during the past 11 months have not weakened it, and that it is still capable of fighting the battle with competence and ability, and that its vision of the battle and its course has not changed, as observers say.
Speaking to Tel Aviv Tribune, Israeli affairs expert Dr. Ashraf Badr said that these messages show that “Sinwar is still relevant and informed about events, and that he is leading there in a command and control room and is informed about what is happening.”
Sinwar’s messages also show that “Israel was unable to accomplish anything during the battle,” according to Ihab Jabareen, an expert on Israeli affairs.
Israel also failed to dismantle and neutralize the support fronts. Sinwar confirmed in his message that the launch of the hypersonic missile sent “a message to the enemy that the containment and neutralization plans have failed and that the impact of the support fronts is taking a more effective and influential direction.”
This is what Saeed Ziad believes, as Israel worked to isolate the resistance fronts and neutralize the partners, but it failed to do so. Sinwar’s message came to strengthen the relationship between the resistance fronts and support for Gaza.
Even if Israel failed to neutralize the support fronts, the resistance still needs these fronts because preparing for a war of attrition requires the support fronts to enhance their role to help in this war, according to Sari Arabi.
“The plans to contain and neutralize the resistance fronts have failed, and this will make them more influential in deciding the battle,” according to what Sinwar said in his message to Al Houthi.
It can be said that Yahya Sinwar’s messages came to indicate that Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was unable to overthrow Hamas or dismantle its military and political capabilities. The movement’s leader comes out and challenges Netanyahu, which indicates the failure that accompanied Netanyahu during the war, according to Ihab Jabareen.
There is no better evidence of this than the steadfastness of the Palestinian negotiator during the prisoner exchange negotiations with Israel, as he did not submit to the pressures exerted on him. This is due to his possession of power on the ground and a popular base that is still steadfast and supportive of the resistance, and support fronts that are increasing the pace of their confrontations with Israel according to the course of the battle and its requirements.
Sinwar also sought to raise the morale of Arabs and Muslims during his message, as he addressed what the people of the Gaza Strip are suffering from “a war of genocide, siege and starvation, which requires the nation to support them.”
