Silhouetted by fire, a six -year -old girl survives the Israeli attack in Gaza | News Israel-Palestine Conflict

The Khalil district emerges from the living fire, but its mother and two of his brothers and sisters are killed during an Israeli air attack.

The Khalil district looks at the camera, her eyes barely concentrating when she remembers the horrors of what she experienced.

“When I woke up, I found a huge fire, and I saw that my mother was dead,” she said, telling the Israeli air attack early on Monday that she survived, but it killed her mother, two of her brothers and sisters and 33 other people.

Six-year-old Ward video sequences, her little body silhouettes against the flames after the attack on the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school in Gaza City, shocked people around the world, stressing the ferocity of Israel’s attacks on Gaza.

Ward and a brother’s father also survived the attack, but they both stay in the hospital.

The school had devoted several families, including many children, when it has been targeted by Israeli fire.

“I entered the fire so that I can escape.” Do you see? My arm is burned here, “she said, showing the camera the injuries.

Ward sobbed by explaining what happened to his family: “They were martyred. May God forgive them.”

Images taken at school after the attack show blood -stained walls and charred mattresses lying on the floor while rescuers and distraught relatives search the rubble and burnt clothes for signs of survivors.

Eyad Al-Sheikh Khalil, Ward’s uncle, rushed to school after seeing a photo of her online.

“I looked at the photos that the journalists published, and I saw a photo of Ward with the Civil Defense and I realized that it was my niece,” he said about Ward images comforted by the rescuers near the school, the bright arcs in his hair finished with the ash of fire.

“When someone comes out of an attack like this, in a war like this, what do you expect to feel that a child feels?” Eyad asked. “Of course, she will suffer mentally. We all suffer mentally. “

“It was indescribable,” said a survivor who was drawn from the rubble with his son. “Bodybuildings, charred body, smell of burning. I swear to God, our hearts are dead. We are shaken, exhausted. Enough.”

The people moved to Gaza have closed in schools, many of which are affiliated with the United Nations, since the start of the War of Israel against the Enclave in October 2023.

On May 7, Israeli forces targeted only one school housing 2,000 Palestinians twice the same day, killing at least 29 civilians in the Bureij refugee camp, including women and children.

According to UNRWA, the United Nations Help Agency for Palestinian refugees, almost three -quarters of all Gaza school buildings has been directly affected by Israeli fires since October 2023. According to United Nations satellite assessments, 95% of Gaza schools have suffered damage, making the vast majority unusable.

Unmanaged shelters are now “overwhelmed by people in search of security,” said UNRWA in an update after the Fahmi al-Jarjawi school attack. He also pointed out that the lack of food in Gaza due to a three -month seat imposed on the territory by Israel added to the suffering of people.

“Many families refer to abandoned, unfinished or damaged buildings,” said the agency. “The sanitation conditions are disastrous; In some cases, hundreds of people must share a single toilet. Others, including children and pregnant women, slept in the open air. ”
