Shooting in Prague: the 14 victims identified, the shooter committed suicide

A student opened fire on Thursday at the prestigious Charles University, killing 14 people and injuring around twenty others. The Prime Minister has denied any link with international terrorism.

Czech police confirmed during their press conference this Friday morning that 15 people had died in the shooting from the day before – 14 people from the Faculty of Philosophy of Charles University in Prague, and the shooter, who committed suicide. There are also 25 injured, including three foreigners – two Emiratis and a Dutchman.

Police Chief Martin Vondrášek confirmed that the attacker killed his father earlier today in Hostouň, a few dozen kilometers from Prague.

Law enforcement also said there were links between Thursday afternoon’s massacre at the university and the double murder of a father and his two-month-old daughter in a forest near the Czech capital. .

Early in the morning, Prime Minister Petr Fiala laid flowers in front of the Charles University headquarters in tribute to the victims of the shooting. The police have so far given no details on the victims, nor on the reasons which pushed the shooter to commit the act.

Interior Minister Vít Rakušan said Thursday evening that investigators found no links to terrorist groups or radical ideology. Minutes of silence took place in many faculties across the country. Several cultural and sporting events have been canceled.​
