Four people, including a child, were killed Friday morning in Scheesel after two shootings. A soldier was arrested.
It was still early Friday morning when police officers were called to a house in Westervesede, in the municipality of Scheesel, after a series of gunshots.
The shooting was allegedly carried out by an active Bundeswehr soldier who went to the police after the shooting. Local media report that the motive for this killing is not yet clear.
Shots were also fired into one of the neighboring houses in Bothel in the Rotenburg district. According to police, it is not yet known whether there is a connection between the two crime scenes.
A police press release indicates that it cannot be ruled out that the motive is linked to the family environment. Police launched a major operation around 3:30 a.m. local time, and national and federal police were also on site. A police helicopter was used early in the investigation, according to local media.
No further details about the deceased, including their ages and the nature of their relationships, have been confirmed at this stage.
Investigators are also examining a vehicle in front of the barracks to determine whether the bomber’s vehicle contained ammunition and explosives. Initially, the prosecution did not indicate whether the suspect’s weapon came from the Bundeswehr. According to the police, there is no longer any danger for the surrounding population at this time.
