A video showed an Israeli female soldier deliberately standing in front of a cannon while it was firing a shell towards the Gaza Strip, which sparked resentment among the Israeli army and media regarding the state of recklessness and violation of the firing rules committed by the soldiers.
The female soldier appears in the video standing on a dirt barrier directly in front of the cannon and close to its nozzle, before the soldiers fired the shell over her head at an unspecified location in Gaza, causing it to explode due to the strong air pressure resulting from the firing.
Since the start of the war on Gaza 74 days ago, Israeli soldiers have been publishing video clips on social networks of operations they are conducting in the Strip, including serious failures, violations of the laws of war and international humanitarian law, and violations against Palestinian civilians, the latest of which was the killing of 3 Israeli prisoners by “friendly fire.”
Dangerous documentation
On Tuesday, Israeli Channel 12 commented on the video, which caused a sensation on social media, describing what happened as “dangerous documentation.”
The channel said, “The soldier appears standing on a dirt berm, a few meters away, next to an artillery gun.”
She added, “The cannon fired a live shell, which forcefully pushed the female soldier, who was standing in the same place, knowing about the shooting.”
The channel quoted the Israeli army as saying, “The accident shown in the video is dangerous, and completely violates the safety instructions issued by the Israeli army.”
The army explained that an in-depth investigation will be conducted into this matter as soon as possible, and sanctions will be imposed, and indicated that there were no casualties in the incident, according to the channel.
The Israeli army is facing a storm of anger after it mistakenly killed 3 Israeli prisoners in Gaza in the Shujaiya neighborhood, even though they were waving white flags and one of them was calling for help in Hebrew, saying, “Save us.”
The Israeli army has so far admitted that 458 officers and soldiers have been killed since the beginning of the war, while the Israeli press speaks of thousands of wounded and a larger number of dead.
As of Monday evening, the Israeli war in Gaza left 19,453 martyrs, in addition to 52,286 wounded, most of them children and women, massive infrastructure destruction and an “unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe,” according to Palestinian and UN sources.
