Could the assassination attempt against Slovak Prime Minister Robert Fico on Wednesday May 15 have been avoided? At least that’s what one expert believes. After viewing the images of the attack, he points out numerous flaws in the security system.
According to Dr. J. Ervin Kis, Robert Fico’s security team made serious mistakes during the attempted assassination of the Slovak Prime Minister on Wednesday (May 15). An expert in personal security, he helped us analyze the images of the attack.
In the first image we see that, as Ervin Kis says, Robert Fico, marked with a red arrow, is not surrounded by his bodyguards in close cover, but that the closest one is a good meter away. The biggest problem is on the left, where the bodyguards are even further apart. The shots come from the right, and as no one protects Fico on the left, he falls to the ground unhindered.
The bodyguards did not take into account that there could be more than one shooter
According to the expert, the first shot is almost impossible to deflect in such situations, but the second should ideally have been stopped by one of the bodyguards. But Robert Fico’s defenders reacted a few seconds later, and badly.
Moments later, Fico was already collapsed on the ground from the gunfire, but at that point he was still not covered by his bodyguards. The men on the right in the photo above were busy disarming the attacker, which is good according to Ervin Kis, although they arrived late at the scene. However, the bodyguards close to Fico do not cover him with their bodies. The problem could have been more serious if there had been more than one attacker, as he could have fired targeted shots at the prime minister.
After the attack, former Slovak police chief Istvan Hamran also said that security had failed and chaos reigned at the time of the attack.
Ervin Fis goes even further and asserts that this attack could have been avoided thanks to the intelligence services. Because a few days ago, the suspect had expressed his dissatisfaction during a demonstration.
“On April 24, the suspect had shouted loud and clear, during a demonstration, that there was enough of Fico. So, if the intelligence services had recorded this, if they already knew it and had reacted Consequently, in a crowd of 30 people, this person could have been easily eliminated.”
Robert Fico is now in stable condition. On Monday, doctors will discuss the possibility of transferring him to a hospital in the capital, Bratislava.
