Serbia: Serbian opposition in the streets, Moscow accuses the West

For the eighth consecutive day, the Serbian opposition denounces the irregularities of the legislative elections of December 17: Moscow accuses the destabilizing influence of the West.

In Serbia, the gap between the opposition and those in power is widening.

Now, in addition to denouncing fraud in the legislative elections of December 17, demonstrators are demanding the release of the 35 protesters arrested on Sunday.

Serbia Against Violence is a pro-European coalition, it is the largest opposition political group in the country.

Miroslav Aleksic of the “Serbia Against Violence” coalition speaking to students: “You are the pride and future of Serbia, and it is up to you to choose which country you will live in. Thank you for fighting for your city and your Serbia in these streets”.

Moscow comes to the aid of Serbian President Aleksandar Vučić

Russian diplomatic spokesperson Maria Zakharova accuses “the West” of “seeking to destabilize the situation”.

Its leader speaks of troubles coming from abroad.

Dmitry Peskov, Kremlin spokesman: “There are processes and attempts by third forces, in particular attempts from abroad, to provoke such unrest in Belgrade… We have no doubt that the leadership of the Republic will ensure the rule of law in the country.”

In Belgrade, students form the bulk of the demonstrations and believe that the electoral lists are at the origin of the fraud in the legislative elections.

Several activists have started a hunger strike and are demanding the annulment of the results.
