Save the Children said that more than 10 children have lost one or both legs every day in the Gaza Strip since the start of the Israeli aggression 3 months ago.
A statement by the organization, which is based in London, said that since October 7, more than a thousand children have lost one or both of their legs, according to the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF). She pointed out that most of the surgeries performed on these children were performed without anesthesia.
The organization pointed out that this comes at a time when the health system in Gaza is suffering from paralysis due to the conflict, and a significant shortage in the number of doctors, nursing personnel, and medical supplies such as anesthesia and antibiotics, according to the World Health Organization.
The organization noted that while 13 out of 36 hospitals in Gaza are still partially operational, they operate on a partial and intermittent basis, and depend on their access to fuel and basic medical supplies on any given day.
For his part, the organization’s affairs coordinator in the occupied Palestinian territories, Jason Lee, said: “I have seen doctors and nurses feel completely helpless when children come with injuries resulting from explosions.”
He continued, “The suffering of children in this conflict is unimaginable, and even more so, it is unnecessary and completely avoidable.”
Since October 7, 2023, Israel has been waging a devastating war on the Gaza Strip, which as of Sunday left 22,835 martyrs and 58,416 wounded, most of them children and women, massive infrastructure destruction and an unprecedented humanitarian catastrophe, according to Palestinian and UN sources.
