Dmitry Anatolvic Medvedev, Vice -President of the Security Council, said today, Tuesday, that Moscow did not pay attention to the statements of US President Donald Trump, which he made yesterday, considering that it is just a “formal warning.”
The statement of the Russian official came in the wake of an interview with Trump with the BBC (BBC) broadcast this morning and confirmed that his relationship with Russian President Vladimir Putin was “not over” despite his increasing feeling disappointed about Moscow’s behavior.
“I am disappointed with him, but I have not yet despaired of it,” Trump said, adding that during the last period, the issue of concluding an agreement with Russia on Ukraine was raised on 4 different occasions.
When asked how to persuade Putin to stop the war, Trump replied, “We are working on that, we will have a great conversation, then I will tell you that things are good, I think we are about to conclude an agreement, and then he will bomb a building in Kiev.”
Trump announced yesterday, Monday, that new weapons were sent to Ukraine, including billions of dollars in Patriot Systems, which will be sent through NATO (NATO), with the alliance to bear its costs.
Moscow also gave 50 days to reach a peace agreement, threatening to impose economic sanctions on countries that continue to buy Russian exports.
International responses
For its part, the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs said in an official comment that “coercion and pressure will not solve any problem,” referring to Trump’s threat to impose customs duties on Russia’s commercial allies.
Ministry spokesman Lin Jian added that China is opposing unilateral sanctions, and that economic wars are not winning.
At the level of the European Union, the High Representative for Foreign and Security Affairs Kaya Calas stated that the bloc is “very close” to imposing a new package of sanctions on Russia, noting that the decision may be taken today or tomorrow during the meeting of European foreign ministers in Brussels.
