Russia-Ukraine: tensions and clashes on both sides of the border


The Russian region of Belgorod was the target of drones by the Ukrainian army. Russian strikes have killed at least three people in Sumy, northeastern Ukraine.

Once again, the Russian region of Belgorod has been the target of Ukrainian army drones.

Attacks which left at least two dead and pushed local authorities to order the closure of shopping centers. Because the region is also the scene of clashes between the Russian army and pro-Kyiv fighters.

These fighting are also taking place in Kursk, a region bordering Ukraine.

Russian strikes also caused victims on Ukrainian territory, particularly in Sumy, in the northeast of the country. This Thursday, emergency services are being mobilized to find possible survivors in the rubble of this building. The toll from these attacks is at least three dead.

During a press conference in Tokyo, the Director General of the IAEA discussed his recent meeting with Vladimir Putin, in particular the situation at the Russian-occupied Zaporizhzha nuclear power plant in southern Ukraine.

I had already visited kyiv and the Zaporizhia nuclear power plant and met President Zelensky. So I was able to have an important conversation with President Putin during which I expressed my views on the situation at the plant and was able to assess the measures to be taken. I don’t think the conditions are right at the moment for the use of nuclear weapons with regard to the war in Ukraine“, said Rafael Grossi, Director General of the IAEA.

The plant is located in a combat zone and the head of the IAEA has called on Russia and Ukraine to exercise restraint to avoid a nuclear accident.
