The Senate of the Russian Federation approved the date two months to the day after Vladimir Putin’s 71st birthday.

The Russian president has not yet confirmed his candidacy.

Boris Yeltsin appointed Vladimir Putin as interim president on December 31, 1999.

Vladimir Putin was 48 years old at the time.

The former KGB colonel has already served 4 terms at the head of his country. The reform of the Constitution allows him to stay in power until 2036.
