Vladimir Putin and Kim Jong Un sign a mutual assistance pact in the event of aggression against Russia or North Korea.

No details are revealed on the type of assistance provided in the “strategic partnership“signed by the Russian and North Korean leaders.

Kim Jong-Un speaks of a treaty “looking towards the future and exclusively peaceful”.

For his part, Vladimir Putin believes that “Pyongyang has the right to take measures to ensure its security.”

The head of the Kremlin adds that Russia does not exclude “military-technical cooperation” with North Korea.

Vladimir Putin also thanked Kim Jong Un for his support for Russia’s war in Ukraine.

Western chancelleries are concerned about the technological transfers that Russia could grant to North Korea in exchange for munitions.

Russian support could strengthen the threat posed by North Korea’s nuclear program.

This is Vladimir Putin’s first visit to Pyongyang in 24 years.

Since the start of the Russian invasion of Ukraine in February 2022, Moscow and Pyongyang have made a rapprochement in the face of what they refer to as Western hegemony.

Alongside Kim Jong Un, the Russian president says he wants United Nations sanctions against North Korea to be “reexamined”.
