Alexei Navalny’s mother has filed a lawsuit in a court in Russia’s Far North to recover her son’s body.

A closed hearing is to be held on March 4 in Salekhard, the town closest to the Arctic prison where Alexei Navalny was serving a 19-year prison sentence.

In a video Lyudmila Navalnaya asks Vladimir Putin that her son’s remains be returned to him.

Alexei Navalny’s team accuses the Kremlin of having him killed and of hiding his body to prevent any investigation.

For his part, Londes announced that he would ban six officials from the prison where Alexei Navalny was detained from staying in the United Kingdom.

Rishi Sunak, Prime Minister of the United Kingdom: “Together with our allies, we are considering all options to hold Russia and Putin accountable. And this morning we sanctioned those who run the prison where the body of Alexei Navalny.”

The death of the Kremlin opponent has aroused indignation in Western chancelleries and the United States, for its part, announces that it is on the verge of taking “major sanctions” against Moscow.

The White House must reveal this Friday the nature of the measures that will be put in place.

Alexei Navalny narrowly survived a poisoning in 2020.

He died at age 47 after three years in detention.
