Russian President Vladimir Putin welcomed on Friday the creation of more than 500,000 jobs in the defense industry over the last eighteen months.

Moscow has planned an increase of almost 70% in the budget allocated to defense in 2024.

In the campaign before the presidential election in March which he should unsurprisingly win, due to lack of opposition, Vladimir Putin presented the conflict in Ukraine as a “struggle for Russia’s survival”.

Death of two French humanitarians

French President Emmanuel Macron reacted Friday to the death of two French humanitarian workers in a Russian strike in the Ukrainian region of Kherson, evoking an act “cowardly and unworthy”.

The International Court of Justice, the highest court of the United Nations, declared itself competent on Friday to rule on most aspects of a case brought by Ukraine. Kiyv notably denies the accusations of genocide that the Kremlin used to justify its invasion.

The ICJ, however, declared itself incompetent to rule on a possible genocide perpetrated by Russia in Ukraine.
