A well-known American figure is no more. Rosalynn Smith Carter died this Sunday at the age of 96, at her home in Plains, Georgia, after hospice treatment.

Rosalynn Carter was at the heart of the campaigns of former US President and Nobel Peace Prize winner Jimmy Carter. Once in the White House, from 1977 to 1981, the former First Lady stood out for her desire to get involved in politics. With her husband, she defended human rights, democracy and health issues around the worldwhile maintaining a remarkably discreet public image.
