British aircraft engine maker Rolls-Royce is set to cut up to 2,500 jobs worldwide in a bid to cut costs.
This measure represents almost 6% of its global workforce, which amounts to approximately 42,000 people.
The 2,000 to 2,500 job cuts constitute “the next phase of its multi-year transformation”announced Rolls-Royce in a press release published Tuesday.
“We are building a Rolls-Royce fit for the future”explains CEO Tufan Erginbilgic in the press release, “which means a more streamlined and efficient organization that will meet the needs of our customers, our partners and our shareholders”.
The restructuring unveiled Tuesday involves bringing together the company’s engineering, technology and security departments “into one team.”
Rolls-Royce returned to profit in 2021, after posting a considerable loss the previous year, during which the company suffered heavily from the COVID-19 pandemic and its colossal impact on the automotive sector. aviation.
The group then fell heavily back into the red in 2022.
Last August, Rolls-Royce published a net profit group share of 1.2 billion pounds (1.38 billion euros) for the first half, compared to a loss of 1.6 billion pounds for the same period. the previous year, due in particular to a sharp devaluation of foreign exchange contracts due to the surge in the dollar.
Tufan Erginbilgic, who took the reins of Rolls-Royce at the start of 2023, detailed an ambitious transformation plan at the start of the year, including a strategic review to prioritize investments “towards the most profitable opportunities”.
