The UN Rapporteur on Human Rights in obtaining drinking water and sewage services, Pedro Arojo-Agudo, said today, Tuesday, that the destruction of Israel is the water infrastructure in the Gaza Strip and preventing access to clean water as a silent but fatal bomb.

Anatolia news agency reported that 2.1 million people in Gaza are facing a water crisis, and that about 70% of the water infrastructure in the region was destroyed by Israel.

He stressed that the vast majority of the residents of the sector either do not reach the water except in very limited quantities, or that the water that reaches them is seriously contaminated.

He added that the Israeli siege imposed since October 2023 included food, water, electricity, and other basic goods.

He pointed out that the crisis went out of control after Israel cut off the fuel needed to operate water and wells purification plants.

He stressed that the deliberate destruction of water systems means the use of water as a weapon in the war on Gaza, continuing that “water is used as a weapon, but not against an army or militia, but against civilians.” He said, “Drinking drinking water from people is similar to throwing a silent bomb on them, and this bomb is silent, but it is fatal.”

He pointed out that the Israeli attacks on the water structure in Gaza reduced the per capita water per day to only 5 liters, and it is not sufficient for a normal life.

According to the data of the United Nations Children’s Fund (UNICEF), Agudo said that diarrhea in children under the age of five increased from 40,000 to more than 70,000 during the first week of December 2024.

During the ongoing aggression on the Strip, Israel destroyed 64 out of 86 wells that were nourishing Gaza City, in addition to the destruction of the Central Desalition Station.

With absolute American support, Israel has committed since October 7, 2023 genocide crimes in Gaza, which left more than 171,000 Palestinians between a martyr and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
