The government media office in the Gaza Strip announced today, Tuesday, the number of Palestinian journalists who have been martyred since the start of the Israeli war on the Strip to 215 journalists, after the assassination of the journalist Hassan Hayyih, director of the “Alam 24” news agency.

The office said in a statement that the Israeli army aimed to repair direct shelling while receiving treatment in the Nasser Medical Complex in the southern Gaza Strip, after it was previously injured during a previous assassination attempt and is still in the treatment phase.

The reconciliation was injured on April 7, after an Israeli bombing targeting his tent in front of the Nasser Medical Complex in Khan Yunis, which also led to the death of two journalists who were inside the tent.

The government media office condemned what it described as the systematic targeting of Palestinian journalists, calling on the international human rights and journalistic institutions to condemn these continuous crimes against the sector’s media, and to stop the policy of impunity that surrounds its perpetrators.

The office held Israel and its supportive countries, such as the United States, Britain, Germany and France, fully responsible for these crimes against journalists.

The office renewed its call to the international community and the organizations concerned with freedom of the press and human rights to the immediate action and serious pressure to stop the crime of genocide against the residents of Gaza and to protect journalists and media professionals from targeting and assassination.

Israel has continued since October 20, 2023, to wage a widespread war on the Gaza Strip, including killing, destruction, starvation, and forced displacement of the Palestinians, amid ignorance of international calls and the decisions of the International Court of Justice to stop the war.

These operations resulted in the death of more than 172 thousand people, the majority of whom are children and women, in addition to more than 11 thousand missing, in light of a strict siege and a severe shortage of basic humanitarian needs.
