Palestinian Prime Minister Mohamed Mostafa announced today, Wednesday, the Gaza Strip, a “famine area”, while the United Nations Commissioner for Human Rights, Volcker Turk, considered that the use of starvation as a weapon against civilians in Gaza is a war crime.

In a press conference in the city of Ramallah, in the middle of the West Bank, Gaza declared an area of famine, and called on all member states of the United Nations to move urgently according to its obligations under international humanitarian law, and recognition of the catastrophe and famine.

The Palestinian Prime Minister also called for the implementation of the United Nations resolutions that prevent the use of hunger as a war weapon, calling on the entire international system to activate its mechanisms immediately and deal with Gaza as a famine area.

He added that his government will continue to do everything it can in order to confront the Israeli aggression, famine against the Palestinian people, and the hard work with the international community to save lives, to recover and reconstruction.

The Palestinian government, headed by Mustafa, also rejected the proposed Israeli plan to distribute humanitarian aid in the Gaza Strip, and considered it an attempt to circumvent the international institutions.

War crime

For his part, the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights, Volcker Turk, considered that any use of the starvation of the civilian population in Gaza as a weapon constitutes a war crime, stressing that the residents of the Gaza Strip have already been deprived of all the necessities of life, especially food.

Turk warned that Israel’s plans to forcibly deport the inhabitants of Gaza raises real concerns about the imposition of conditions that threaten the survival of the Palestinians, stressing that the expansion of the military attack on the Strip will inevitably lead to more mass displacement and victims.

Immediate

Meanwhile, more than 20 independent experts at the United Nations urged the world to move immediately to prevent “eliminating” the Palestinians in the Gaza Strip.

Experts said in a statement that the decision is clear, either the states stand up to the spectator and are satisfied with watching the massacre of the innocent, or to participate in formulating a just solution.

They warned against slipping into the “moral abyss” faced by the international community in light of the continued aggression.

For its part, Finland strongly condemned what is happening in the Gaza Strip, calling on Israel to stop the displacement of the population, and stressed the need for humanitarian aid to reach the Strip, noting that the dismissed pictures of the suffering of people in Gaza should stop.

Crime

At the same time, Amnesty International stressed that any Israeli move would expand military operations against the Gaza Strip and displace Palestinian civilians from it as “war crimes and crimes against humanity.”

This came in a lengthy statement published by the organization (headquartered in London) to denounce Israel’s genocide in Gaza and impose a continuous blockade against the Strip in a “clear disregard for international law.”

She added that Israel is committing “genocide”, confirming that Tel Aviv is fully aware of the extent of the non -reform damage to the Palestinians in Gaza.

And it warned of any move by Israel to displace the Palestinians to the southern Gaza Strip and restrict them in the so -called “closed bubbles” or to continue to impose inhuman living conditions that push the Palestinians to leave the sector, which will rise to “the crime of war represented in transportation or illegal deportation.”

The organization added that if these actions are committed as part of a large -scale attack or a systematic attack against the civilian population, they are crimes against humanity.

A meal every two days

On the same level, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency (UNRWA) said that hundreds of thousands of Palestinians in Gaza are eating one meal every two or three days due to the starvation policy that Israel continues to implement.

The 2.4 million Gaza Palestinians are completely dependent on this aid after the genocide that Israel has been continuing to commit 20 months ago to the poor, according to the World Bank data confirmed.

The Israeli occupation army continues to commit horrific massacres against Palestinian civilians, amid local and international condemnation and without practical positions to prevent their recurrence.

These massacres come amid a systematic starvation policy followed by Israel against the Palestinian people in the Strip, as aid uses a “weapon” against civilians in Gaza.

Since last March, Israel has closed the sector crossings in front of the entry of food, relief, medical and goods, causing a significant deterioration in the humanitarian conditions of the Palestinians, according to governmental, human rights and international reports.

Israel has committed American support since October 7, 2023 genocide crimes in Gaza, which left more than 171,000 Palestinian martyrs and wounded, most of them children and women, and more than 11,000 missing.
